A dialogue about mental wellbeing
Amid news reports of university student depression, and a growing awareness of the importance of mental wellbeing for academic success at university, many students at UBC want to engage in a dialogue about mental health. New student initiatives have emerged such as the new Mental Health Awareness Club and The Kaleidoscope, among others.
In October, 2010, the second annual Healthy Minds – Healthy Campuses conference was held in BC. Many UBC groups and services sent representatives to this engaging two-day event where participants had an opportunity to explore issues related to university student mental health. As a follow-up to this event, Healthy Minds at UBC, in consultation with many of the groups who attended Healthy Minds – Healthy Campuses, is planning a one-day event at UBC to encourage dialogue about mental health, healthy minds, and decreasing stigma of mental illness.
