If you’ve ever had the chance to get out of the city, away from the lights, away from the people and the noise then you’ve probably had the chance to feel small in this world. I don’t think there is a thing out there more humbling, calming, awe-inspiring, and a little bit intimidating than seeing more stars than could ever be counted: so many the night seems to turn to day. When I stand under a clear night sky it’s as if the vast expanse of space trickles into my mind and all that matters is the air, the sky and me (and whoever else is there looking at me turn around like a crazy person as I try to take in as many stars as possible). It’s easy to look up and think “if the universe is so big, why bother?” but when I look up I just think, “Earth is so small, I can do this.” Change comes from thinking the impossible is possible. Change is, after all, one of the few constants in life. The universe is constantly moving, changing, our world changes daily and there’s no reason we can’t be part of it. There’s no reason the train of our lives should ever be in the hands of an anonymous conductor. Poverty, the destruction of the environment, domestic violence etc. these are all things that humans have contributed creation of over the course of our history and they are all things we can contribute solutions to in our future. Change, leadership, they build from a simple desire to make the world a better place. The earth is small, we can do this. Like Captain Planet says (yes, really, Captain Planet), the power is yours!
