The Office of the Vice President Research and International would like to announce a unique opportunity for a UBC student to attend the G8 University Summit.
About the program:
The 2010 G8 University Summit will bring the presidents of universities from the G8 and wider G20 grouping to Vancouver for a three day conference on sustainable health, energy and higher education. The presidents’ event will be preceded by a three day student event in Banff, Alberta that will explore themes of sustainable energy and sustainable health. Student delegates will be nominated by the attending universities.
Please note that this program is not a credit-bearing opportunity.
Program Dates: May 1-3 2010 in Banff, Alberta; May 20-22 in Vancouver, BC
Program Award:
Successful candidates will be invited to attend the G8 University Summit students event in Banff, participate in the discussions and the drafting of the declaration statement, which will be presented to the presidents at the Vancouver event. The UBC student delegate will also be invited to attend the presidents event in Vancouver from May 20-22. The cost of travel and accommodation to Banff will be covered by UBC.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Nomination by a UBC Faculty member
- Demonstrated commitment to sustainability (academically or otherwise)
- Full-time student at UBC; fourth year undergraduate, or graduate students are eligible
- Strong academic record
- Demonstrated ability or demonstrated potential to actively engage in participatory workshops
Application Details:
All applications must include the following documents:
- Faculty member statement of support outlining student suitability (250 words max.)
- Statement from the candidate about why he or she should be considered (250 words max.)
- Candidate’s resume or CV
- Candidate’s UBC Academic Record (print out from the SISC is sufficient)
