The goal of Mental Health First Aid Canada is to improve mental health literacy. This workshop, in collaboration with the Canadian Mental Health Association, provides participants with the skills and knowledge to help people better manage potential or developing mental health problems in themselves, a family member, a friend or a colleague.
By the end of the workshop, the participants will recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health problems, be able to provide initial support to a person who may be developing a mental health problem or is experiencing a mental health crisis, and be prepared to guide a person towards appropriate professional help.
This training is 12 hours in length to be completed in 4 sessions over a two week period.
Exact dates are February 27, 29, March 5, 7.

The UBC Tax Assistance Clinic is a student-run organization that assists students and low-income individuals prepare their tax returns from Mid-February to the end of March. The clinic will be held from February 27 to March 30, 2012, Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m – 4:00 p.m.
Registration for the clinic opens to international students on February 1st, 2012. To receive confidential assistance with your taxes, please register online at http://www.ubctacs.org to make an appointment by clicking the appointment tab, and register as a new client. After registration, a confirmation e-mail will be sent to you with a password. Please DO NOT register before February 1 as the system may not recognize your registration before then. All appointments are held at International House.
Please book your appointment as soon as possible after February 1, 2012 as capacity is limited to a first-registered first-serve basis.

We have an abundance of knowledge. Research findings at UBC and beyond can save millions of lives. Yet, there is a gap. A chasm exists between the knowledge we possess and the needs of communities that need this information. A multidisciplinary approach utilizing a broad range of skills and 21st century communication tools can create the partnerships needed to bridge this gap. New partnerships are developing and UBC is ideally poised to maximize its ability to address the global health challenges before us. This talk will focus on how this can be achieved.
There will be a seminar from 12:00-1:00 pm, followed by a light lunch and reception from 1:00-2:00 pm
